How to clean your phone correctly and without damaging it
Why is it important to clean your phone?
Your phone is one of the objects we touch the most throughout the day, accumulating bacteria, dust, and oil on its screen, casing, and ports. Regular cleaning not only improves hygiene but also extends the device's lifespan.
Materials you need
- Microfiber cloth
- 70% isopropyl alcohol (or bleach-free disinfectant wipes)
- Cotton swabs
- Compressed air (optional)
Step by step: how to clean your phone
1. Turn off the device
Before starting, turn off the phone and disconnect it from any cables or chargers. This prevents short circuits and makes cleaning easier.
2. Clean the screen
Use a microfiber cloth slightly dampened with 70% isopropyl alcohol. Gently rub in circular motions. Avoid pressing too hard to prevent damaging the glass or the oleophobic coating.
3. Clean the casing and sides
With the same cloth or a disinfectant wipe, clean the edges and the back of the phone. Pay special attention to the areas around the buttons.
4. Clean the ports and speakers
Use a dry cotton swab or compressed air to remove dust accumulated in the charging port, headphone jack, and speaker grille. Do this carefully to avoid damaging the internal connectors.
5. Let it dry before turning it on
Wait a few minutes before turning the device back on to ensure there is no moisture left.
Additional tips
- Clean your phone at least once a week.
- Never use water directly on the device.
- Avoid abrasive products or those containing bleach, which can damage the coatings.
- If your phone has damage to the screen or charging port, consider replacing the parts before cleaning to prevent dirt from getting inside.
